Yurii Kovash

April 13, 1983 – July 31, 2023

Senior police lieutenant, operative of the criminal police sector of the Police Department №4 4 of the Odesa District Police Department №4 1 of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa Oblast.

He was born in Balta, Odesa region. Yurii Kovash studied at the Balta Professional Lyceum. On February 29, 2024, a memorial plaque was unveiled in his honor and he was awarded the honorary title of «Hero of the Balta Community».

From August 2013 to June 2017, he studied at Odesa State University of Internal Affairs.

He spent 17 years in law enforcement. He worked in various units, including the patrol police, a special police battalion, and the criminal police.

With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops, the operative, as part of a consolidated detachment of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa Oblast, performed official tasks related to countering the occupiers and crime in the liberated part of Kherson Oblast, and maintained law and order.

Yurii Kovash was killed on July 31, 2023, while performing a service mission in the Kherson region under russian artillery fire.
