OSUIA: The meeting of the Interuniversity Round Table "Language and Law: Linguistic Aspect of Understanding, Interpretation and Application of Law"

On November 9, 2023, a meeting of the Interuniversity Round Table "Language and Law: Linguistic Aspect of Understanding, Interpretation and Application of Law" was held, which was organized by the Department of Language Training of the Faculty of Specialist Training for Preventive Activity Units.

The meeting was opened by the rector of the Odesa State University of Internal Affairs, Doctor of Legal Sciences, Associate Professor, Honored worker of education of Ukraine, Police Colonel Dmytro Shvets. The Rector drew attention to the problem of learning the English language and called on scientific research and scientific-pedagogical workers and students of higher education to focus on the tasks of improving foreign language training of law enforcement officers and jurists.

The representative of the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language Yaroslava Vitko-Prysiazhniuk congratulated the participants of the scientific event, stressing that in connection with the military aggression on the part of the Russian Federation and its use of the "language issue" as one of the tools of its expansion, the threat to the Ukrainian language is equivalent to a threat to national security of Ukraine, the existence of the Ukrainian nation and its state.

Traditionally, the main areas of discussion have become topical issues in the coordinates of language and law: the current state of the language of law and legal terminology; intercultural communication in the field of professional activity; the culture of communication in the official activity of a police officer.

The high level of delivered reports by students from the National Academy of Internal Affairs, Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs, Odesa Military Academy, National University of Civil Defense of Ukraine, National Academy of the State Border Service of Ukraine named after B. Khmelnytskyi, Odesa State University of Internal Affairs was noted.

As a result of the discussion, the participants of the round table adopted a resolution in which they emphasized the need to continue cooperation between institutions of higher education in conducting scientific events on linguistic topics, expanding the range of research aimed at dentifying and solving problems of the full functioning of the Ukrainian language, which has the legal status of the state, in all spheres of public life of society throughout the territory of Ukraine.

The collection of materials of the round table in electronic format will be placed in the Electronic Repository of the Odesa State University of Internal Affairs.

The participants of the round table expressed their sincere gratitude to the leadership of the University for the opportunity to hold the scientific event.
