Today, the Odesa State University of Internal Affairs hosted a roundtable discussion “Childhood without Violence: Safety in the Family as a Component of Eurosecurity” as part of the Erasmus+ project within the Jean Monnet Program “Non-violent Education Practices: EU Experience”.

This time, the event was held for the second set of project participants, who actively participated in the discussion of key issues of child safety, children's rights and non-violent education in the context of European standards.

The team of the grant project was represented at the event by Olena Kovalova, PhD in Law, Senior Researcher, Associate Professor, and Kostiantyn Palshkov, PhD in Political Science, Associate Professor.

The participants of the roundtable - cadets and students - presented reports on both theoretical and practical aspects of non-violent education, the role of the child in the family, the impact of psychological trauma, age crises and social stereotypes on the well-being of the child.

Among the topics that sparked lively discussion were: maintaining discipline without the use of force; forms and consequences of domestic violence; child participation in decision-making; legal aspects of the prohibition of humiliating punishment; and the impact of stereotypes and post-traumatic conditions on the family environment.

For the participants, the roundtable was the final of Module 1 of the training course “Childhood without Violence: Legal, Psychological and Social Mechanisms of Provision”.

The event demonstrated the high level of interest of young people in shaping a culture of non-violent education and legal thinking in the field of child protection.
