The graduate of the Driving School for People with Disabilities of the OSUIA received a category B driving licence
Kateryna Piddubna, a student of the Driving School for People with Disabilities of Odessa State University of Internal Affairs has successfully passed a practical exam at the territorial service centre of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and has received a category B driving licence.
Kateryna is an internally displaced person from Donetsk who moved to Odesa when the fighting in the eastern Ukraine had begun. She has been using a wheelchair for almost 10 years.
I am convinced that in such a difficult time for our country, it is important to be able to drive a car, because it is unknown where and when a person will need these skills. Perhaps they will help save someone's life at the right time. Therefore, I am very grateful for the implementation of this project and the much-needed initiative of Olena Zelenska “No Barriers initiative," says the Driving School graduate.
Kateryna says that the hardest part was getting a feel for the car's dimensions: "But I am very grateful to our instructors, who had explained the theory in a clear and professional manner firstly, and then explained how to drive the car in an accessible way. I have always felt their support and sympathetic attitude, and it helped me a lot".
All the necessary conditions for the theoretical and practical training have been currently created in the driving school of Odessa State University of Internal Affairs: a classroom for studying the structure and the operation of the vehicles and the traffic rules and the basics of traffic safety; a training ground for initial driving of the vehicles; inclusiveness of the building and construction; a room for living for people with disabilities; a temporary shelter for people with disabilities; the highly qualified specialists with relevant certificates; six vehicles (two of them for people with disabilities).
