An international scientific and practical conference was held at the OSUIA
On April 24-25, the Odesa State University of Internal Affairs hosted an international scientific and practical conference “Ensuring the Principle of Child’s Dignity: Counteracting Violent Methods of Upbringing”. The event was held within the framework of the Erasmus+ grant project: Jean Monnet module “Nonviolent Education Practices: EU Experience”, which is being implemented at the university with the support of the European Union.
Participants of the event included members of the Ukrainian Parliament, representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the National Police of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, the Department of Labor and Social Policy of the Odesa City Council, the Department of Education and Science of the Odesa City Council, the Council of Europe, the European Union Advisory Mission, the NGO La Strada-Ukraine, the NGO All-Ukrainian Public Center Volunteer, the community of lawyers, and academic staff from Ukraine and abroad. In total, more than 200 people participated in the conference in offline and online formats.
The event was opened by the Rector of the OSIA Viacheslav Davydenko. Welcoming speeches were delivered by Vadym Pyankovskyi, Deputy Director of the Department of Education, Science and Sports of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine; Olha Kalashnyk, Senior Project Manager of the Council of Europe's project “Protection of Children's Rights during War and the Post-War Period in Ukraine”; Jan Dancho, Advisor/Trainer on Police-Community Relations of the European Union Advisory Mission; Vasyl Bohdan, Head of the Juvenile Prevention Department of the National Police of Ukraine; Nadiya Sytnyk, Head of the Department for Organization of the Educational Security Service of the National Police of Ukraine; Maria Popova, representative of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights in Odesa Oblast.
The conference was organized into two tracks: “Legal, psychological and social mechanisms for ensuring a safe childhood” and 'European standards of prevention and response to violent methods of education'. Within the framework of the discussion platforms, the participants of the event heard speakers' presentations on the legal support for the protection of children from violence, psychological aspects of attacks on the dignity of the child, the role of professionals and the public for a safe childhood, and educational practices in the cultural experience of Ukraine and the EU countries.
It should be noted that the speakers at the event included students under the age of 18. The organizers of the conference sought to adhere to the principle “Nothing about a child without a child.”
Based on the results of the scientific and practical event, the conference's organizing committee approved a resolution containing proposals and recommendations aimed at overcoming challenges in preventing and combating violence against children.
