Department of Criminal Law Disciplines
The modern history of the department began in August 2024, when the Institute of Law and Security of the ODUVS was reformed. From the very beginning, the department was headed by Doctor of Law, Professor Andriy Babenko. He became its first head.
Since its inception, the department has transformed into a powerful scientific and pedagogical team, which occupies a special place in the system of professional and legal education at the University. The department is a leader in the training of higher education seekers at the first (bachelor's), second (master's), and third (doctor of philosophy) levels.
The goal of the department is to provide highly professional training for bachelors, masters, adjuncts, graduate students, and doctoral students.
The main areas of activity of the department are:
- implementation of educational and professional programs, training plans for training, retraining, and advanced training of specialists;
- implementation of international and national standards for quality assurance in higher education within the competence of the department;
- organization and implementation of the educational process at the appropriate scientific and methodological levels, introduction of modern innovative teaching technologies;
- preparation and systematic updating of methodological support for educational activities in the academic disciplines taught by the department;
- conducting research work and involving higher education students in it;
- involving leading scientists, specialists from the National Police of Ukraine and other law enforcement agencies, state and public organizations in conducting classes and assessing the knowledge of higher education students;
- maintaining and improving the material and technical base of the department and the university;
- implementing the provisions of the ODUVS Anti-Corruption Program and complying with anti-corruption legislation;
- monitoring and diagnosing the level of knowledge.
The department conducts educational activities aimed at training specialists in educational and professional programs of the first (bachelor's) and second (master's) levels of higher education in the field of knowledge 08 Law, specialty 081 “Law” and the field of knowledge 26 Civil Security, specialty 262 “Law Enforcement.”
After graduation, graduates will be able to find employment in the relevant departments of the National Police of Ukraine in the positions of investigator of the National Police of Ukraine, criminal investigation officer, district inspector of the National Police of Ukraine, and officer of the Department of Strategic Investigations,
Faculty members. The current faculty consists of a team of specialists, most of whom have many years of practical and scientific experience. The vast majority of the department's members have a scientific degree in the specialty 12.00.08 – criminal law and criminology; criminal enforcement law and academic titles, respectively, and 12.00.09 – criminal procedure and criminalistics; forensic examination; operational-investigative activity.
Currently, the department employs one Honored Lawyer of Ukraine, five Doctors of Law, seven professors, and six Candidates of Law (PhDs).
The department's motto is: “Dimidium facti qui coepit habet. Sapěre aude, incipe!” He who has begun has already done half the work. Decide to be wise, begin!
