Scientific Diplomacy and International Partnership: OSUIA in Kalisz
Nataliia Bilak, Doctor of Law and lecturer at the Department of Criminal Law Disciplines of the Odesa State University of Internal Affairs (OSUIA), took part in an international conference and official events held at the Academy of Justice (Akademia Wymiaru Sprawiedliwości) in Kalisz, Republic of Poland.
During her presentation entitled “Challenges of Ensuring Human Rights in Places of Detention under Martial Law in Ukraine”, Nataliia Bilak focused on the pressing issues of the functioning of the penitentiary system in wartime conditions, emphasizing the importance of adhering to international standards of humanity even in the most difficult circumstances.

As part of the visit, an important meeting was held to discuss the development of cooperation between OSUIA and the Academy of Justice.
The Polish side was represented by:
• Rector-Commandant, Dr. Michał Sopiński;
• Vice-Rector for Cooperation and Development, Dr. Iwona Lewandowska-Pierzynka;
• Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Penitentiary Studies, Master’s degree holder, Major Tomasz Barna.
The discussion outlined key areas of future cooperation, including:
• implementation of academic experience exchange programmes;
• expansion of opportunities for joint scientific research;
• introduction of new teaching and educational initiatives.
