A seminar on international humanitarian law was held at OSUIA
On March 17-18, Odesa State University of Internal Affairs hosted a training seminar on international humanitarian law, with representatives from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in attendance.
The event was opened with a welcoming address by the seminar moderator, Dmytro Dvornyk, who briefed the participants on the mandate and activities of the ICRC in Ukraine and outlined areas of cooperation with law enforcement and security agencies.
The program addressed a number of pressing issues. In particular, Solene Berthelier and Valentyna Sokolova, representatives of the ICRC’s Protection Department in Odesa, discussed the organization’s efforts to support the families of missing persons.
During the session on the ICRC’s cooperation with law enforcement agencies, participants had the opportunity to engage in a dialogue with representatives of the organization, discuss practical aspects of cooperation, and share experiences.
Special attention was given to the ICRC’s forensic medical activities. Forensic medical expert Cate Bird and her assistant Dmytro Shataliuk briefed the audience on the specifics of work in this field, particularly in the context of armed conflict.
The event concluded with a lecture by lawyer Mariia Olshanska, who outlined the fundamental principles of international humanitarian law.
