Optional lecture for students of the State Police College of Latvia
On April 23, Odesa State University of Internal Affairs hosted an optional lecture for students of the State Police College of Latvia. The event was held by Volodymyr Dryshliuk, Head of the Department of State Legal Disciplines, PhD, Associate Professor.
The topic of the class was «The system of international human rights protection in the world». The lecture highlighted the key stages of the formation and development of the concept of human rights, starting from ancient times, in particular, the period of Babylon, Ancient Greece and the Roman Empire. Particular attention was paid to the contribution of ancient philosophers to the formation of the idea of natural human rights.
The lecturer also focused on the evolution of human rights in the Middle Ages, the development of the concept of natural rights in the Enlightenment, the emergence of the first human rights acts and declarations, as well as the three main concepts of human rights that formed the basis of modern legal doctrine.
A separate section deals with the intrinsic nature of human rights, international mechanisms for the implementation and protection of human rights that emerged in the twentieth century, including the activities of the UN and regional human rights institutions.
The participants learned about the classification of human rights, the current system of their protection and discussed the prospects for further development of the global human rights system.
