Discussion platform “Protection of human rights under martial law” dedicated to the International Human Rights Day

Аs part of the 16 Days Against Violence campaign, Odesa State University of Internal Affairs hosted a discussion platform “Protection of Human Rights under Martial Law” dedicated to the International Human Rights Day.

The event was organized by the Department of General Legal Disciplines, the Centre for Gender Education and the Mediation Centre of the OSUIA.

 

The Vice-Rector of the University Maksym Kornienko and the representative of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights in Odesa region Maria Popova welcomed the audience.

 

 

The event was moderated by Lilia Matveeva, Head of the Department of General Legal Disciplines, Doctor of Law, Professor, and Liubov Berezovenko, Assistant to the Rector for Gender Issues.

 

 

The speakers of the event were: 

 

- Yulia Didenko, MP of Ukraine; 

 

 

- Jan Danco, Advisor/Trainer on Community Policing at the European Union Advisory Mission Ukraine;

 

- Sanna Cascaela, Rule of Law Adviser/Trainer, EU Advisory Mission Ukraine; 

 

- Angelina Petelko, Head of the Department of Organization of the Educational Security Service of the Main Department of the National Police in Odesa Oblast;

 

- Kostyantyn Dremov, Senior Inspector on Special Assignments of the Division of Commissioners for Human Rights in Police Activities of the Human Rights Compliance Office of the Department of the Main Inspection and Human Rights Compliance of the National Police of Ukraine; 

 

- Vitaliy Matveev, Chairman of the Board of Prozhektor NGO, Head of the Human Right Clinic project, lawyer, media lawyer; 

 

- Olha Hromova, career counselor at the VONA Hub Odesa project (UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund in Ukraine);

 

- Victoria Tomina, Head of the Legal Clinic of the Odesa State Police, Professor of the Department of Administrative and Legal Disciplines; 

 

- Zhanna Mishkevych, Executive Director of the New Life Charitable Foundation;

 

- Alyona Yukhymchuk, director of the Sofia Rehabilitation Centre. 

 

 

The participants discussed topical issues in the field of human rights protection, problematic aspects in the activities of legal clinics, measures aimed at raising public awareness of human rights, recent changes in national legislation and areas for further cooperation.
