The criminal police is a key element of the modern law enforcement system in Ukraine. The effectiveness of its work largely depends on the professional training of its employees. That is why the creation and development of the Department of Operational and Investigative Activities, which aims to train modern, highly qualified specialists for the newly formed criminal police units with deep theoretical knowledge and practical skills, is of great importance.

The history of the department dates back to 1990, when it was established based on several special disciplines as a basic structural unit of the higher education institution. At present, the department consistently carries out educational and methodological activities at a high level for bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees, as well as conducts effective research work. In addition, the scientific and pedagogical staff of the department conducts high-level classes in the field of postgraduate education and advanced training of employees of practical units of the National Police of Ukraine.

The peculiarity of the scientific and pedagogical staff of the Department is the availability of significant practical experience in operational and investigative units of the internal affairs bodies and the National Police of Ukraine.

The Department is a co-founder of the Ukrainian Association of Scientists and Specialists in the Field of Operational and Investigative Activities.
