The Unit of Postgraduate Education is a structural unit of the University, which provides the organization of the educational process with students of permanent, variable composition, training of police officers of the relevant services in accordance with the orders and decrees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
According to Art. 75 of the Law of Ukraine “On the National Police”, the Regulations on the organization of postgraduate education of National Police officers approved by the order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine on December 24, 2015, No. 165, a schedule for sending police officers for further training and specialization in 2017 approved by the order of the National Defense League of 20.02. 2017, No. 137 “On the organization of advanced training and police specialization”, also according to Art. 73 of the Law of Ukraine “On National Police”, Regulations on initial training of police officers, who were first accepted for service in the police, approved by the order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine on February 16, 2016, No. 105 and by the order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine dated March 1, 2017, No. 174 “On Amendments to the Provision on the Initial Professional Training of Police Officers First Adopted for Service in the Police” in order to meet the needs of the National Police in highly skilled personnel of a high level of professionalism and culture, which are able to competently and responsibly perform their duties at the Odessa State University of Internal Affairs in the Department of Postgraduate Education and Kherson Department organized training and initial training of the police, which was first adopted for service in the police.
The training process for advanced training and initial training of police officers is carried out in accordance with approved training-thematic plans and professional programs in specialties.
The guarantee of high-quality training of specialists is the professional level of scientific and pedagogical personnel. Today the university has created a pedagogical potential of scientists: 29 doctors of sciences (including 23 professors) and 135 candidates of sciences (72 associate professors and 5 senior research assistants). In addition to scientific advances, most workers have considerable experience in practical units – judicial and law enforcement agencies, which is extremely important for the training of police officers.
Planning and organization of work, as well as direct management of the Unit of Postgraduate Education is conducted by the head of the Unit. The Unit is headed by Colonel Police Victoria Tomina. And staff of Unit includes a leading specialist Alla Ilyeva, a leading specialist police lieutenant Nikolai Tkachenko, a specialist Oksana Gromik, a specialist Galina Petrosyan, a specialist Angelika Bernikova.
The general management of the Unit is carried out by the vice-rector of the university.
The organization of the educational process of employees of the National Police of Ukraine in the Unit of Postgraduate Education is carried out in the direction of:
- primary vocational training (specialization);
- retraining;
- certification training.
In its activities the UPE closely cooperates with sub-faculties, departments and other structural subdivisions of the University, coordinates and controls their work in terms of planning, organization and control over the process of training specialists. It also directly maintains contacts with the component parts of НПУ and УПП in Odessa, with the involvement of experienced active police officers in the educational process.
