The Kherson Faculty

Kherson Faculty of Odessa State University of Internal Affairs was established by the order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine dated 07/17/2014 № 693 and trains specialists of the educational level “Bachelor” in the field of 081 “Law” and 026 “Law Enforcement”, as well as provides the opportunity to receive professional technical education in the profession 5162 “Policeman”.

The faculty has qualified and experienced pedagogical staff; scientific-methodical and scientific support is carried out on the appropriate level, it also has its own sufficient material and technical base, which is being constantly improved. According to the Concept of Development of Higher Education Institutions with Specific Training Conditions of the MIA of Ukraine, the study of the problem concerning drug crime fighting is being carried out at the Odessa State University of Internal Affairs. In this regard, the Kherson Faculty creates conditions for training high qualified specialists who will work in the National Police in the future, first of all, in its units specialized in combating drug crime.

Kherson Faculty was established on the basis of a higher education institution of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which has been training law enforcement officers since 1973. The faculty complex is located in Kherson, Fonvizina Str, 1. The Inter-Republican School for the Training of Junior and Secondary Chiefs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR (1973–1983); Kherson Special Secondary School of Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR (1983–1991); Kherson Special Secondary School of Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine (1991–1992); Kherson Police School of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine (1992–1997); Kherson Faculty of the Zaporizhia Law Institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine (1997–2002); Kherson Law Institute of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs (2002–2011) functioned here.

The training fund contains a lecture hall, 28 classrooms, 2 computer classes, a forensic training ground, 3 sports halls, a stadium, a shooting range, a battlefield, 2 libraries with reading rooms (1 – special, 1 – general). The faculty also has a canteen for 800 persons, garages, workshops and other outbuildings.

The high qualified and experienced pedagogical staff provides training of specialists in this sphere.

There are four departments at the faculty:
• Department of General Law and Socio-Humanitarian Disciplines;
• Department of Professional and Special Disciplines;
• Department of Special Physical and Fire Training;
• Department of Administrative Law and Administrative Procedure.

The departments of the faculty have developed the necessary educational and methodological support during educational process: curricula in all normative and elective disciplines; texts of lectures, plans of seminars, practical classes, tasks for individual and independent work of cadets (students) (including with use of information technologies), complex control works for checking the knowledge on humanitarian and social and economic, natural-scientific, professional and practical training; topics and guidelines for course work, internship programs, criteria for assessing the knowledge and skills of cadets (students).

Since April 2018, the Center of Primary Vocational Training was opened on the basis of Kherson Faculty, where employees are trained in accordance with the requirements of the standard of professional (vocational) education in the working profession “Policeman”, approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine from 21.06.2018 № 669.
Information support of educational and scientific activities is carried out with the help of the library complex, which consists of modern reading rooms with a book fund of more than 15,500 copies. The library forms its fund not only on paper, but also on electronic media. It provides readers with access to the Internet, an electronic database of lectures, seminar and practical classes, curricula and textbooks.

Employees of the faculty have experience in the development and examination of laws and regulations; writing monographs, textbooks, scientific and methodological recommendations recommended for use in the training of students and cadets by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
