The OSUIA held a training session on non-discrimination and human rights

On August 7, Odesa State University of Internal Affairs hosted a training session titled “Preventing Discrimination Against Key Populations (with a Special Focus on Patients Receiving Substitution Maintenance Therapy) by Law Enforcement Officers,” organized by the public organization “Faith. Hope. Love” and the public organization “Public Health Alliance” in collaboration with the OSUIA.

The event was attended by officers from the educational safety units of the territorial divisions of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa Region.

The trainers were Illia PODOLIAN and Nina SEMIKOP. During the training, they familiarized participants with modern approaches to ensuring the rights of members of key population groups, the specifics of how substitution maintenance therapy programs operate, issues related to overdose prevention, combating stigma and discrimination, as well as effective models for police officers to communicate with citizens.

Particular attention was paid to fostering a people-centered approach in law enforcement and to upholding the principles of equality, non-discrimination, and respect for human rights.
