Training on international humanitarian law from specialists of the Red Cross Society of Ukraine

On November 26, a training on international humanitarian law (IHL) was organized by the Ukrainian Red Cross for applicants for higher education and scientific and pedagogical workers of the OSUIA.

The location for communication was provided by the Genocide Museum "Territory of Memory," where the participants of the training were additionally able to get acquainted with the exposition of the museum.

 

 

Advisor to the President of the Red Cross Society of Ukraine on International Humanitarian Law Timur Korotkyi spoke about the main categories of IHL, the basic principles and conditions for the application of its norms, the ratio of humanity and military necessity, the categories of participants and victims of armed conflicts.

 

 

Issues of responsibility for violations of IHL and peculiarities of qualification of war crimes were discussed.

 

 

The structure of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and the role of the Ukrainian Red Cross in disseminating knowledge on IHL were also considered.

 

 

The training was an important step to increase the awareness of higher education applicants and teaching staff of the OSUIA.
