OSUIA visited by representatives of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and EUAM
Representatives of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the European Union Advisory Mission (EUAM) visited Odesa State University of Internal Affairs, namely: Hyunjuk Park (Republic of Korea) — Senior Advisor on Gender-Based Violence, UNHCR; Georgios Pokas (Greece) — Senior Advisor on Law Enforcement, EUAM; Jan Danco (Slovakia) — Advisor/Trainer on Police-Community Relations, EUAM.
The purpose of the visit was to hold an international seminar for higher education students on the topic: “A victim-centered approach to police response to cases of gender-based violence.”
The event covered the following topics: basic concepts of gender-based violence (GBV); legal aspects of GBV in Ukraine and the European Union; modern approaches to police response to GBV with a focus on the needs of victims; response to domestic violence, in particular intimate partner violence.
Particular attention was paid to the practical aspects of training future law enforcement officers: cadets and students had the opportunity to participate in thematic role-playing exercises, simulating situations of interaction between a police officer and a person who has suffered from various forms of GBV. This approach allowed participants to better assimilate theoretical knowledge and acquire practical skills.
After the seminar, all participants received certificates of participation in the event.
