Language and law: the linguistic aspect of understanding, interpreting, and applying the law

October 28, Odesa State University of Internal Affairs hosted a meeting of the Interuniversity Cadet and Student Round Table «Language and Law: Linguistic Aspects of Understanding, Interpreting, and Applying the Law».

The meeting was opened by the university's first vice-rector, Maksym Korniienko, who emphasized that language is one of the strongest borders protecting the integrity of the state, the foundation for the unity of the people and a spiritual guarantee of its future. He also stressed the importance of language training for police officers and lawyers.

 

 

Traditionally, the main topics of discussion were current issues in the areas of language and law: communicative and cultural-political aspects of the Ukrainian language during the war, speech culture as a component of professional law enforcement activity, legal support for the functioning of the state language, legal terminology of the Ukrainian language and the processes of its creation, as well as intercultural communication in the professional activities of police officers and lawyers.

 

 

The round table was attended by students and lecturers from the National Academy of Internal Affairs, Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs, Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs, Odesa Polytechnic National University, Loránd Eötvös University in Budapest, and Odesa State University of Internal Affairs.

 

 

Following the discussion, the roundtable participants adopted a resolution emphasizing the need to continue partnership between higher education institutions with a view to organizing linguistic research events and deepening research activities aimed at ensuring the full development and functioning of the Ukrainian language.
