Department of Police Administration

 

The Department of Police Administrative Activity is a basic structural unit of the Faculty of Training for Preventive Activities of Odesa State University of Internal Affairs, which was established in 2019.

 

This department provides the study of academic disciplines related to the police activities of the National Police of Ukraine, during the study of which special attention is paid to the issues of police interaction with the public based on partnership, prevention and counteraction to domestic violence, protection and observance of human rights in the activities of the National Police and many other practical aspects of police activities. The main areas of professional activity of the department are: educational, scientific, methodological, organisational and educational work carried out in the process of teaching a set of disciplines provided for in the training programmes of relevant specialists and curricula of the university.

 

The department's academic staff maintain scientific relations with educational institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and other higher education institutions of Ukraine, cooperate with the prevention units of the Main Department of the National Police of Ukraine in Odesa Oblast and other regions, as well as with general secondary education institutions through preventive and educational work.

 

We would like to note that the lecturers of the department have repeatedly won first places at the Lecturer of the Year and Best Researcher of the Year competitions held at Odesa State University of Internal Affairs, and the department's academic staff has implemented several grant programmes.

 

An important stage in the development of the department's activities is the ongoing cooperation with international organisations, including the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the European Union Advisory Mission Ukraine (EUAM), and participation in the preparation of educational and methodological publications, as well as various scientific and practical events and trainings. In addition, international cooperation provides an opportunity to use and share best international practices.

 

It is also worth noting that the academic staff of the department systematically improve their qualifications, participate in training, international exchange of experience among police officers under the CEPOL programme and international internships. Among the representatives of the department are certified trainers on ensuring and protecting children's rights, preventing and combating domestic violence, combating human trafficking, etc.

 

An integral attribute of the quality of the department's academic staff is cooperation with non-governmental and public organisations, including La Strada-Ukraine, Faith. Hope. Love’ and the All-Ukrainian Public Centre “Volunteer”, where they act as consultants, trainers, developers of methodological developments, brochures, posters on the prevention of domestic violence and gender-based violence, human trafficking, juvenile delinquency and other issues.

 

In order to strengthen the practical component of the educational process, the Department of Police Administrative Activity provides two training locations - Line 102 and the Interactive Classroom on Preventing and Combating Domestic Violence - which are used during classes to develop practical skills.
