Participation of representatives of OSUIA in the training of the EUAM “Prevention and Combating of Domestic Violence”

img_8346img_8284On January, 15-17 representatives of Odesa State University of Internal Affairs Olena Kovalyeva, Oleg Koropatov and Anastasiya Berendeyeva have taken part in a training on the topic “Prevention and Combating of Domestic Violence”, which was organized by the Consultative Mission of  European Union.

During the training, positive practices of domestic violence prevention in European countries, in particular in Denmark and Sweden, were considered.

So, Anne Kate Pedersen has told about the European practice of interrogation of children, victims of domestic violence, which is less traumatic for the child; Henrik Andersson has explained the theory of domestic violence, Klaus Vinters has provided an algorithm for policing in responding to the facts of domestic violence, as well as the peculiarities of gathering evidence and the approach to investigating such cases.

A separate day of the training was devoted to the peculiarities of the national legislation on combating domestic violence. Coach Elena Kovaleva has explained the novels of Ukrainian legislation in this area and the peculiarities of its application. img_8300img_8345Considerable attention was paid to the cooperation of state bodies with other partners. Advisor of the Head of the Odesa Regional State Administration Lyudmila Akimova has told about an integrated approach to solving the problem of domestic violence in Odesa and Odesa region. Information about public organizations, which can be addressed by people who have suffered from domestic violence, and the possibilities of these organizations to help such persons, was provided by the Head of the public movement “Faith, Hope, Love” Tetyana Semikop.

The training was very informative, participants came to the conclusion that counteraction to  the ndomestic violence is a complex problem, which involves close cooperation between state and non-governmental bodies. Changes in the Ukrainian legislation that criminalized this act, taking into account positive European experience, as well as the close interaction of all actors, are those factors that are intended to reduce the level of domestic violence and help those people who suffered from an aggressor.
