Briefing session with the participation of representatives of the EUAM

On February 6, a regular briefing session with the participation of Claus Vinters, Criminal Investigation Advisor / Trainer, was held on “Methods of Interrogation of Suspects and Witnesses (Model PEACE)” for representatives of the scientific and pedagogical staff of higher education at the Odessa State University of Internal Affairs.

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????The main issues to be underlined by a foreign specialist during the session was the review of the procedures used in most Western European countries, especially the PEACE model, as well as ideas, considerations and methods that might be useful during the interrogation.

Klaus Vinters stressed on how to correctly ask questions and what exactly, pointing out 5 main types of questions, and that only the first two should be used:

– Closed Questions (What’s your name? What time is it?);

– Open questions (How did you get to know? Why did you do this?);

– Guiding questions (How many times have you done this before?);

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????– Double (What did you do with a pistol – did you give it to your brother?);

– Hypothetical (Do you enjoy it? Did you feel uncomfortable about this?).

As the foreign specialist noted, a precondition for a qualitative result is the preparation for questioning and the list of questions asked by the police officer, the questioning, as well as the correct analysis and processing of the information received.

So, we can testify to the effectiveness of such events and the sincere interest of the university staff in further pursuing similar activities to enhance their own professional level.
